CGC Mohali Hosts 7th Edition of SIH 2024
Chandigarh College of Engineering, a flagship institution under the esteemed Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Mohali, Punjab, has successfully hosted the highly esteemed Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 – Software Edition. This remarkable event celebrated as one of India’s largest innovation challenges, marks the second consecutive year that CGC Mohali served as the Nodal Centre for this prestigious national competition. It stands as a monumental reflection of the institution’s commitment to fostering innovation and academic excellence, aligned with the visionary leadership of the college’s management.
SIH 2024, organized across 51 centres nationwide, saw CGC Mohali playing a pivotal role, contributing significantly to the seamless execution and success of this intellectual marathon. The event, a 36-hour non-stop challenge, gathered 25 teams, comprising 144 passionate students and mentors from top educational institutions across India, who competed fiercely to solve five carefully curated real-world problem statements. These challenges were designed to test the participants' creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills, particularly in the field of software development.
This hackathon was a true celebration of intellectual prowess, as students from diverse backgrounds worked collaboratively under immense pressure, coding, debugging, and innovating relentlessly. The participation was truly national in scope, with teams from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Gujarat, showcasing the country’s best and brightest minds.
The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of distinguished dignitaries like Chief Guest Dr. Satish Kumar, Chief Scientist, CSIR- CSIO , Chandigarh. The eminent personalities included Dr. Munish Jindal, CEO of Hover Robotix, and Dr. Sanjeev, Joint Director at CDAC Mohali. Their insightful addresses, during the inaugural session, emphasized the transformative role of hackathons in shaping the future of software development and the pivotal role of innovation in driving technological progress. Both speakers lauded the tremendous value of platforms like SIH in fostering creativity and technical excellence among young minds, reinforcing the importance of such initiatives in nurturing India’s next generation of tech leaders.
The hackathon concluded with an exhilarating final stretch, as the winning teams were announced and celebrated for their extraordinary achievements. The @Cyber Wardens team, solving Problem Statement PS1664, emerged victorious alongside the Bengal Tigers Apex, who excelled with SIH1742. Team Error 404, from SIH1667, also demonstrated exceptional problem-solving capabilities, while Linear_Depression secured their spot as winners for SIH1661. Lastly, ABES_INNOSQUAD claimed their well-deserved recognition with SIH1666. Each of these teams was awarded ?1 Lakh for their outstanding performance, making the competition even more thrilling and rewarding.
The vibrant and spirited atmosphere throughout the hackathon continued to reflect the institution’s ethos of excellence.
