“Best Out of Trash”: Fashion Design Students at CGC Jhanjeri Transform Waste into Wearable Art

The Fashion Design Department at CGC Jhanjeri recently hosted a groundbreaking event titled “Best Out of Trash,” encouraging students to harness their creativity by transforming waste materials into stunning wearable art. This initiative provided a platform for aspiring designers to showcase their talent and promoted sustainable fashion practices, emphasizing the importance of upcycling and environmental consciousness within the industry.

Participants from the 3rd and 5th semesters were challenged to create unique and fashionable outfits using discarded materials, including fabric swatches, old denim, and fabric scraps. The event featured an impressive array of designs, each reflecting the students’ resourcefulness, creativity, and hard work. The judging panel, composed of the Director of the Chandigarh School of Business and the Dean of Management, meticulously assessed the outfits based on criteria such as creativity, originality, and the effective use of materials.

After an exhilarating display of talent and innovation, the winners were announced. The first prize was awarded to Khushi and her team from the 5th semester for their breathtaking one-piece design crafted entirely from velvet fabric utilizing the weaving technique. The second prize went to Kajol and her team, who creatively transformed old denim into fashionable outfits, while the third prize was awarded to Lavish and his team for their striking street-style creations.

The event concluded with an award ceremony where the winners received medals and certificates, inspiring all attendees to think creatively and sustainably in their future fashion endeavours. The “Best Out of Trash” event exemplified the Fashion Design Department's commitment to fostering innovation while encouraging a sustainable approach to fashion, paving the way for the next generation of designers to make a positive impact on the industry.
